City of Alexandria

Historic Preservation Conference
Department of Planning and Zoning


Helped plan for, arrange and conduct the initial Alexandria Historic Preservation Conference and Town Meeting held in May 2007. Activities included facilitation of the deliberations of the conference committee, drafting and execution of a communications plan, finding locations for the conference, preparation and production of the conference program and related materials, handling all conference logistics, preparation of press releases and interaction with media representatives. Prepared a conference evaluation survey and tabulated the results and reviewed and revised a conference summary report.

Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan
Department of Planning and Zoning


Conducted a 75 person Stakeholder Listening Tour to assess experiences and attitudes regarding preparation of a small area plan for the Braddock Metro area. Prepared a report containing key messages and themes expressed during the stakeholder interviews. Assisted in the design and conduct of a community involvement process that led to completion and adoption of the Braddock Metro Neighborhood Plan (BMNP). Participated in preparing the purpose, agenda, speakers, content and facilitation of the town meetings, educational workshops, charrette and work sessions. Participated with City and consultant staff in developing, evaluating and putting a strategy in place for gaining approval of the plan. Reviewed and revised a wide range of project products. Designed and prepared several issues of the Braddock Bulletin, the project newsletter. Reviewed and suggested changes to the draft BMNP. The plan was unanimously adopted by the Mayor and City Council and is currently being implemented.

Alexandria Waterfront

Engaged to assist the Department by interviewing a wide range of stakeholders through a Stakeholder Listening Tour to obtain and provide information to help shape the Waterfront Master Planning process. The interview process included a broad cross-section of City of Alexandria stakeholders including the Mayor and Council, members of boards and committees, businessmen, civic, arts and waterfront area leaders. A Key Themes and Messages Report was prepared that addressed current and future issues, elements to be considered for inclusion in a Vision for the Waterfront Area, obstacles to achieving the Vision and methods for reaching out to and involving the public in preparing the Waterfront Plan. The report was used in preparation of Waterfront Area Goals and the Public Participation Process that will be used in preparing the Plan.
